How the Theme Detector Works

Three steps, no plugins to install, nothing to sign up for

  1. 1

    Paste a website URL

Enter the address of any public website. You do not need access to its dashboard.

  2. 2

    We scan its public code

UncoverWP reads the same HTML and theme files your browser loads, then checks the theme's style.css header.

  3. 3

    Get the theme and plugins

See the theme name, author, version, parent theme, and every plugin that loads on the front end.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is UncoverWP?

UncoverWP is a free WordPress toolkit and guide library. Its tools inspect any public WordPress site to reveal the theme, plugins, and WordPress version, and its guides explain how to fix and improve what the tools find.

How do I find out what WordPress theme a website is using?

Paste the website URL into the UncoverWP Theme Detector at the top of this page and click Detect Theme. The tool reads the site's public source code, finds the active theme folder, and opens its style.css file to show the theme name, author, version, and parent theme.

Is the WordPress Theme Detector free?

Yes. Every UncoverWP tool is free and needs no signup. A light rate limit only stops automated abuse.

Can the detector find WordPress plugins too?

Yes. It lists every plugin that loads CSS or JavaScript files on the front end of the site. Plugins that only run in the admin area or on the server cannot be seen from outside, so the real total is usually higher.

Why can't the tool detect the theme of some websites?

Detection fails when a site is not built on WordPress, uses a headless or heavily customized setup, hides theme paths with a security plugin, or blocks automated requests with a firewall.

Do you store the websites I check?

Results are cached for 12 hours so repeat checks load faster. UncoverWP also keeps an anonymous count of how often each theme is detected. No personal data or page content is stored, and IP addresses are only used in hashed form for a short-lived rate limit.
